die cast vs triple flange Last viewed: 8 minutes ago

please excuse the newbie question, but I'm confused.

I've been searching the net for an hour and can not see the difference between the diecast and triple flange hoops.

I know one is cast and the other rolled...I know they affect the tone differently...I know one is more ridged...and I know the cost difference....that I all get.

But I can not "SEE" the difference by looking at them.

I thought I had it then I see the DW snare...(see pic)..it looks like a triple flange to me I say...but its die cast

the DW and Trixon rims look the same to me...yet one is diecast the other flanged.

please help....I'm getting no work done trying to figure this out

Those are both triple flanged. The quickest way to tell visually is that die cast hoops usually cover a section of the tension rods, whereas triple flange leave the whole tension rod exposed, as seen in the photos. SC's photo shows the visual difference I'm referring to.
