Can someone explain what the difference is between these two throw-offs.

Not physically, but rather how they work.

I know the 3 point has been around for 80 years but what is the benefit/negative of the rapid throw-off

The difference is around $50-100 more for 1........guess which one........

Technically and mechanically, both the 3-point and Rapid strainers operate the same way. The difference is in the construction, which reflects the time period. When you compare the two side-by-side, it's easy to see how the 3-point morphed into the Rapid strainer.
