Different Micro-sensitive strainers Last viewed: 48 minutes ago

Hello,

Does anyone out there know the time line difference between Gretsch Micro-sensitive strainers with screw tightened plates that hold the snare straps and ones with holes for snare strings?

Thanks!

I don't know the question.

But, someone knows it.

I believe they were simply for a different kind of snare wire, namely gut snares. The type with the pinch bars are far more common of course, and I imagine in the 60's the ones with the holes were eventually dropped as gut snare wires were used far less if at all.

I agree. The gut snare wires were unusual even back in the 50's - the only drum in the 58 catalog that offered gut snares option was the 14x7 and 15x8 concert broadcaster.

I suspect that they were never used by default even when the micro was first introduced in the mid-50's. I think it would have always been a special order (except for the concert broadcaster, and maybe some marching drums). I know I haven't had them on any of my micro snares including those from 1957/58.
