One would think it would not be all that difficult, given todays technology. Probably not a big enough market to develop technique.

I don't think you can get the exact look of the pearl and it's depth from anything digital. There are 3D plastics you can print on for that moire look. But not so much for pearl. Your dealing with dots and 4-7 colors. It has it's limitations. In the end it looks like a glossy photo of a pearl wrap. :D Printing might get there someday though.
