Dilemma..should I? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

When browsing through my local classifieds I often check 1 province to the east of me and 1 to the west. These 2 kits are for sale by the same guy 8 hours east of me. They are dirt cheap: $220 for the gold 1971 Y-Badge and $190 for the 1962 Rogers Buddy Rich Holiday kit. Add a $200 road trip though..

First off, The Rogers kit seems to have quite a few of the b&B lugs swapped out for beavertails. O' Wise people of VDF I,m really not up on my Rogers and know not of hole spacing on B&B lugs vs beavertail. I do know that the B&Bs were prone to cracking so I'm assuming that this is why they were swapped on this kit. Or do all the drums look from the same era? Let me know what you see. I don't want to spend a lots restoring either.

As for the Gold Y-Badge, She looks to be in good shape and would be the real tempting part for me! I missed one that had the identical wrap this year. This one would clean up great and are great sizes too (12", 13" ,14" and 20"). The Y-Badges I've played weigh next to nothing, so would be great to gig with.

So my dilemma is really: Is the Rogers kit going to be a pricey pain to fix up (as a players kit)? It'll cost me enough money to drive out there thats it's only really worth it if I buy the 2 kits. Thanks!

BTW: if the seller is a member of VDF, I both apologize and compliment you on your taste in drums ( :

Looks like the B and B lug drums came from 1 set...other 2 Beavertails from another..

I would go with the Rogs...but don't know much about Yamahahahas

Why don,t you just pay UPS or FED Ex to ship?...way easier/cheaper on you....

Those Yamaha's actually weren't bad drums, but they can't compare to the Rogers. Yes, the Rogers would be better quality drums, but if you're just looking for a player's kit, the Rogers are going to require more of an investment than the Yamaha's, and here's why:

The chrome bass batter hoop is wrong and should be replaced with wood.

The bass reso hoop, claws, and rods are missing completely.

I don't see the double tom mount arm pictured (that's an additional $100 right there). And are the spurs still there?

The floor tom is missing the legs and knobby mounts and at least one B&B lug.

You don't know how many of those B&B lugs are cracked and completely useless. Replacing with repro's or old Beavertails will be expensive.

You have a lot of pro's and con's to weigh. Whichever you choose, have 'em shipped. They're not worth 16 hours worth of gas at Canadian prices!

After talking to the seller, he now wants to sell the 2 kits or nothing. The rogers is kind of a turn off for me as it has been modded for the beavertail lugs, needs much work and investment. I have a late 60's Fullerton in players condition already. He is not into shipping either, doesn't want the hassle. So I'm going to let this slide...Saves me the hassle of bargaining with my wife!

Two undesirable drums sets: $410

Gas to go pick them up: $150

Not having to bargain with the wife: Priceless!

after looking at the pics of the rogers..

looks like its two different kits..!

notice how the beavertail shells are darker then the B/B shells..

also the collett on the BT lug tom is a cast collett not a machined one.

Hey Rims! They are in the Moncton area, so a good 40 hour drive for you, there and back.He has some Harpy Zildjian K clones that look cool too...Oh and good one mchair303!

Whoa, Moncton? That's where those sets are? We visit my wife's relatives in Fredericton every August. Just a day's drive from Connecticut. Last year, we stopped in Meductic to tour the Sabian factory (that's a great experience). Even my wife was fascinated watching all those shiney cymbals beings stamped, lathed, and polished. Maybe I can "bargain" with her to venture to Moncton if that Rogers set is still available.
