Do Vintage Fathers have Vintage Kids? Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Ok so it's fathers day here in the US and the question is if you play vintage drums and have a kid who plays drums does he/she play vintage or new and is it because your kid appreciates vintage stuff or just because you donated the gear.

Also if your dad influenced you to play because he played do you play vintage because that's what he played or did you inherit his gear or what's the dealio?

And finally if you want to give a shout out to your Dad because he gave you the gift of drums here's a good place to do it, even though he may not actually see it.

Sorry for replying to my own post but just realized what I said and I was talking with my folks today over Fathers day dinner about how I got started with drums. And that my Dad wanted me to play sax or trumpet or even guitar, but not drums. And when he found out I was playing drums he was very unhappy. But he eventually got over it and supported me, and bought me my first drum set, helped me finance my second kit, supported me when I went on tour for the first time as a teenager, and came to my gigs and concerts as often as possible, and actually came to see me play just a few weeks ago. Even though I've been playing for over 40 years and he's 80!! So I guess thats cool even though he's not a drummer.

Thanks DAD

Mcdrummer that is so sweet! My Dad played an important role in me taking up and playing the drums too. Again like you he had different ideas at the time, but realised soon on that I was having none of it and just wanted to hit things!! He arranged my first lessons, bought my first kit and then played taxi driver to all of my gigs and organizations (marching band practice, orchestra etc etc).

Plus I had an uncle who played drums, and he had a 60's Premier kit in BOP with a COB Dyna. Sometime in the early 80's The rack tom got nicked from his car one night so he sold the prems and bought an Arbiter Auto-Tune thing. He still has it.

My son & I re-built a set of 3ply Ludwig Hollywoods for him 7 or 8 years back. He loves them. But when he goes on tour again this summer with a traveling circus, he's gonna take my blue & silver 22,13,14 Club Dates--the ones with the hoop-mount rack tom. He digs their sound, but more than that, he digs their style.......marko
