Does this look Ludwig-ish to you? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Honestly that looks like typical Ludwig construction of the era after aging under less than ideal situations...at least to my eye. They usually hid this sort of thing under either res-o-coat (white paint) or Granitone (textured trunk paint) but did do the clear shells for a while. Not sure why anyone would add veneer to the interior of a drum but you should be able to tell by looking at the plies from the edge.

I love vintage Ludwig drums but they weren't particularly finely crafted back then (nor were Slingerlands) .

Just my opinion, but I've seen a lot of similar looking Ludwig interiors over the years. Some were nice, some not so much. In the era before clear heads became common no one was really paying that much attention to the interiors so a lot of crap was allowed to slide on by.

It is rather clean for a Ludwig interior.

None of the usual drips, fingerprints, glue squeeze, .........things that make it a Ludwig.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Could be, they didn't throw anything away. Gretsch (or rather Jasper) would piece plies together like that. I'm pretty sure I've seen it on Rogers shells too. None of this would likely fly today but things were much different back then.

Been looking for a 3 ply floor tom rescue project, and ran across this. Has anyone ever seen a 3 section "veneer" on the interior of '70s era B/O toms like this? Looked odd to me, and wanted a little advice before pulling the trigger on something that might not be as advertised. (badge on the shell dates to 1976 if that helps any) Thanks in advance!

Its certainly not a crack as was suggested. Its too even, too straight and goes all the way around the shell. What gave you the impression this is a Ludwig shell?

Except I have never seen or heard mention of the practice of using multiple strips for the inside ply layer as seen in the photo.

The linear color change in the wood is where two pieces are stacked. The first pic was a drum I owned; the second pic is from a kit currently listed on ebay. I've never seen 3 stacked pieces until this thread.

Below is the ebay listing including the 2nd pic.

The ad title, lug indentions on the faded champagne wrap, and blue olive badge on the shell...none of which means anything these days of course.

**EDIT** listing came and went, someone else bought it after the re-list, so I either missed out on a deal...or didn't...:p Thanks again for all the input, unsubscribing from thread now. :)
