Drill the mount, not the drum? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Just reading on CL where a band's trailer was stolen out of KC MO. In the description of the gear, the guy lists an 80's Gretsch BD with a Yamaha tom mount. He hand-wrote on the mount "DRILLED MOUNT NOT DRUM". I've never heard of or even thought of drilling the mount instead. Has anyone ever heard of that or done it? Pretty good idea, I think.

Also, here is the CL link. Keep an eye out for the gear.

I think you're on to something here groovesonly....what a great idea! Instead of drilling new holes in the drum to accommodate a different brand of mounting hardware, drill the hardware to accommodate the existing holes and preserve the shell integrity and insure optimal resale value. Although, isn't there a company out there that manufactures adapter plates for switching bass drum mounts?

I've done this. Either make a simple adapter plate or modify the new mount to fit the existing holes on the drum. No irreparable damage this way.
