I was thinking of buying an SKB snare drum case for my Gladstone (yet to arrive) drum.
Are they a high-end case that is as good or better than most?
Your thoughts and ideas for a special well built drum case please.

Absolutely, they are solid, well made and will protect your new acquisition for sure.
I just had my hands on one recently when I repaired a wood timbale for a friend he shipped one of them to me in an SKB case .I was impressed with the heavy duty quality as soon as I picked it up, I knew it was a high quality item. Don't think you could go wrong with that choice Kona. I've had my eyes on a Gladstone shell with rerings to match a clubdate set I have had for years. I need a 14 X14 floor tom. Post a picture , please, when you get it.......thanks.....happy building!

SKB takes care of your drums, at the cost of your back.

The only way to improve upon that is an Anvil case. While I am not that hot on SKB cases for guitars, I love them for drums.
I will agree with caddywumpus that those cases are super heavy.
Thanks,
I am only getting one case - for my 7x14 snare drum so I'm hoping that I will be able to handle that......right into my 80's which is not far off.
I sent an email to the folks at SKB to see if they do 'Cusotm' cases. I will post their answer.
SKB got back to me and said - 'sorry, we only make cases in black - you'll have to spray paint the case if you want any other color.'
I wrote back to say I'm okay with black exterior....it's the interior I'm asking about - a felt/velvet(?) or pile lining in Green.
We'll see what they say.
If they can't does anyone here know of a company that makes hardshell custom drum cases??
SKB sounds like the hardshell case I'd want.....but they don't do custom jobs for one shell. Got that reply today from the folks at SKB. Their suggestion is to buy one of their 1SKB-D6514 (actual dimensions 8 3/4 x 16) and have a local fabric store put the felt/velvet or pile lining in it.
Seems like an open-minded suggestion from them.
Ya - it's exactly like I wanted to have done to it but I'd rather the 'pros' do it - the folks that actually build the cases. I understand where they're coming from - it would cost me too much to have them go to the trouble and make one case. I'll look at how the inside to those fancy guitar cases are done and go from there. I'm not in a hurry.
It certainly would not be worth it for SKB to create a custom interior for you. Creating the interiors for those is certainly not rocket science, however. Any decent seamstress or certainly an upholstery shop could get that done for you.
As to SKB quality. I think they are the best of the lot in the fiber, plastic or roto-molded category. I have a set that I use when we can't use our ATA trunks and they are quite suitable.
