Drum heads Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I am still in the process of putting together a 70's Slingerland and a 50's Slingerland kit, I am almost done, and i will have pics to post.

my question to you all; What type of heads should i use on my kit?

i have a 70's Ludwig kit and i have Remo coated ambasadors on my kit and it sounds pretty good. but i am woundering if i should use something different on my other 2 kits.

what would you guys suggest.

i usually play a lot of country style music and my ludwig kit sounds pretty deep.

but i would like my Slingy kits to sound a little more open. what do you guys think.

If you like the Ambassadors and want something a little different but don't want to commit to a two ply, try a set of Ambassador X's on the batter side. I've tried them on a set of Classic Maple Ludwigs and a set of Legacy's, too, and like them quite a bit. They add a little bit of roundness and body from the regular Ambassadors. They tune up pretty easy, too, and give added durability.

I put coated G2 Evans on my Sling set.............they sound fat and project well. used coated ambass on the bottom.........as you can see, this set is way to big for me to move around, I can split it up as 2 sets if I want to.

shades of king crimson

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Larry the Slings will ALWAYS have a deeper sound/tone than the Luds. Nothing you can do will change that if they are 3 ply shells....just the way it always has been with the earlier Slings.
