Drum kit set up OCD Last viewed: 49 minutes ago

Maybe I'll lower my high hat half an inch.. No, two inches.

My ride could be a little closer and a hair to the left..

No, that's not right I'll put it back..

Floor tom could use a small tweak on the bottom head..

Come to think of it my bass pedal could be a little tighter..

Maybe... Maybe not. No it's fine.. I think?

Arrrgghh!

I spend WAY too much time screwing around adjusting things on my drums.

They sound and play just fine but I'm always thinking things could be better.

If I spent more time practicing and less time OCD'ing over my set up and sound I'd be much better off. Man, what the hell is wrong with me??

Anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

I think you probably speak for many of us.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Once I got my kit where I really liked it, I marked all the stands, legs, etc. with a Sharpie, showing where they mate up. It makes set up so much faster!

And the Sharpie can be easily wiped off with ISO alcohol, in case you want to make changes.

My kit:
Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal
Ludwig 1124 Spur-lok hit-hat with Ludwig Standard Paiste 14” cymbals (760 & 770 gr) with ching-ring
Two Ludwig Standard S-270 cymbals stands
18” Zildjian crash cymbal (1550 gr) and 20” Zildjian ride cymbal (2130 gr) with CAMCO sizzler
Gibraltar motorcycle seat-style drum throne with backrest

I used to do the same thing. I'd futz and adjust everything for a couple days till it was just the way I liked it. Then bring them to practice/gigs only to go through the same thing again back home. LOL.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Yeah I know.. Much to do about nothing I guess.

At least it's just a four piece, lol.

Any more drums to fuss over would send me over the edge for sure! ;)

Thanks guys,

I'll whiff on a crash every now and then, but I'm a neighborhood guy. That said, I'll drive to the drum shop if I lose a felt.

You are anally retentive. OCD is not at all what you're describing.
