Drum shell covers Last viewed: 16 minutes ago
you'll need to strip off the stain back to a natural shell so the glue will adhere to the shell and wrap you'll be applying.
Well I added the stain and the clear gloss on them to . So you said just sand them down to the wood real good . To be honest . I never done this kind of work before . LOL pulling the covers off of the shells wasn't a big problem . Just put the covers back on them is going to be a problem for me .
I think if the clear coat was applied properly (not flaking or chipping off) all you need to do is rough it up real good with #80 sandpaper and the wrap glue should stick OK. Or, you could just use the tape method on the wrap and not worry about what the current surface is.

I did every thing with a Brush . I think I put just about 3 or 4 coats of stain and just about the same with the clear coats .
Just sand the surface rough like CG advised you. You don't sound real confident about doing the wrap job yourself. I would suggest that you pay professionals to do it. Otherwise you could end up ruining $200 to $300 worth of wrap and causing yourself a world of sh*t-work to put the shells right again for another go.
Let the pro's do the wrap job. You'll be happy when it's all done.

Yea ,you are right ,Man I just can't afford to mess it up on my behalf .
I just can't pay out $300 and up twice .
Wont most of the drum shops . Isn't there pretty well expensive .
I have a 8 inch , 12 inch , 13 inch 16 inch and 22 inch .
Call, or email Gary at Precision Drum Co. and ask him for an estimate. Tell him the sizes, if there are any extra holes that need to be filled or any other 'problems' that may need to be dealt with prior to wrapping them. If no other problems, it's just a straight up rewrap - he'll quote you a price for the job.
Still cheaper than having to buy two rounds of wrap because of mistakes. When you get them back from precision those drums will be as good as they can be.
Good luck with the project. There is plenty of 'How To' info here at VDF if you decide to tackle the job yourself.
