Drum storage in attic? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Before I go and store my Yamaha Stage Custom up in the attic, I want to make sure I'm not going to get any surprises with it some day when I get it down (whenever that will be). The drums in drum bags, not hard cases, so I want to make sure there won't be any issues in the summer or winter when the temp changes so drastically... the shells are translucent finish, not a wrap.

Let me know. Thanks :)

I suppose it depends on where you live and what the extremes are in your area. In general, though, I'd consider the attic a poor choice due to the fact that most unfinished attics have pretty extreme temperature differences between night and day -not to mention from season-to-season.

Just to add to O-Lugs post...Keep in mind that every material, no matter what it is, expands and contracts with temperature change...Again, depending where you live, this change can be quite extreme...If you live in the northern climate, then the drum bags could act like a vapour barrier and create condensation over time...This will not help the situation in any means...

As a general rule of thumb, attics aren`t the #1 choice to store drums...However, there are circumstances where drums have been stored in attics for 20+ years and came out unscathed...

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers

Flat out, NO! Unless you have a well-insulated finished attic, it's the worst place to store anything made of wood and metal. Find a nice temperaturs stable (inside) closet that doesn't share any exterior walls or something. Pack them up in their cases with a few desiccant bags, close the door, and the day you pull them out again, they'll be as nice as the day you put them away.

Inside closet=Good. Attic=Bad!

Too many great drums to list here!
