My son got me a Tune Bot for Christmas this year, great gift!
Man, I am really diggin this thing! I checked my tuning before I used it and I was shocked on how close these old ears are. However, this device can speed the process up quite a bit when you get it figured out. A few things that I found very interesting was, that you can see what note your drums are tuned to. Another was, comparing the res side to the batter side. Now I can see and hear what goes on when you change one or the other. Before I had this tool, it just took hours of trial an error the do this. Now it is much faster and I can actually record the settings! This has just opened up a whole new approach for tuning my drums now.
Here are some numbers that I have came up with so far. The spread sound great to my ears.
1971 walnut thermogloss toms (3 ply);
10x14- tuned to a G# frequency=106
16x16- tuned to a F frequency= 87
16x18- tuned to a C# frequency= 67
