I aquired a drum set that appears to have been manufactured in 1969 / 1970. However, I question if the drum has been rewrapped. Here is why:
Although the color - which is the blue silk (plain blue - somtimes refered to as "Cortex") does appear in the catalog scan for what appears to be the first time in 1970, I noticed that the wrap has tiny bubles here and there. In some places it even appears there was not enough glue used on the drum, as the wrap appears to be loose. Or at least not securely glued to the wood drum.
Did Ludwig have some quality issues in 1970 that would account for these types of problems?
Also, the wrap on the floow tom and one of the ride toms had popped lose right at the seam. It just seems to me that either Ludwig did a particularly BAD job of afixing this wrap on ALL of the drums I might add, or someone did a poor fair, but not all that great job of rewrapping the shells.
Any input about this???
If the drums have been rewrapped, I am probably going to do it again. But if not, I don't know if I should remove and rewrap the drum. I am afraid that will devaliue the kit.
Regards,
Randy
