Drummer Starting His Own Band??? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

DaddyNowhere, I always applaud a musician, especially a drummer, that is more concerned with playing "for the song". I say put together the ensemble you want and have a blast. CL, social media and some flyers at the local music stores might do it.

Hi, m8!

Try going to some Open Mic sessions in your area. You'll find people who are interested in playing out (maybe not the material you are fervent about but who could find appeal in your concept), be able to assess playing ability/stage presence to some extent, screen out the obvious "ego" types without discovering them at your first get-together and having to tell them its not going to work, float your concept around in case somebody knows somebody who would/might be interested, etc. Take some professional-looking cards with your contact info and even a short list of tunes you want to do to pass out to anyone who will take one.

I've met some great players/now friends and picked up sub gigs this way. A couple of the sub gigs turned into solid positions with bands, including my present one. Good luck in your quest and Happy Thanksgiving to a fellow Canadian!

Good point, and if you need someone to create the graphics for those business cards, I am sure you could find someone nearby. :)

In the Nashville area there are a handful of tribute and theme bands. They have ended up being quite popular and they do it by being very authentic. I like your concept. You'll need some Rickenbackers and VOX amps!

If money is all you want its out there and growing bigger every day, its called "Baby Boomers" or boomers for short and as they retire classic rock is still their game.

If I were a younger fellow I could put together a 5 piece group ,drums, lead & bass guitar, Keyboards(Hammond porta "B" with leslies, and singer, at least 3 part harmony within the group. I would do some upgrading to some of the Classic rock songs (not the REALLY classics) so I wouldn,t get bored and play a lot of Yacht Clubs,Country Clubs and other small but nice venues in state. I would try to rotate thru them to save fuel cost and make some good money. You really have to have your ducks in a row and play within reasonable distances and maybe, who knows, you could get really well known and start a mini tour, add a horn section maybe. Start small with covers and add in your own stuff as you go. BUT you are going to be suprised at what the above stated venues will pay for a tight band. IMHO

Thanks Tom
