Dyna´s holes info Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

Hi my friends!

During my first disassembling cleaning of one of my two "new" Dynas, I found two small holes near the bearing edges, exactly in the middle, over the strainer and 180 degrees over the butt. (Pls see pics)

Looks like factory made and I could check it in both snares.

Any function or purpose? Pls Rogers experts, I need you all again!!! Help2Group Hug

ps.: I´m sorry if this point was a thread cause before, but I could not find any info about it.

Thanks in advance!!

Pretty sure those holes were for the chrome plating process. For hangers in the dip tanks.

Oh...

Good, cause I thought it was how you put the Mexican ants inside the snare to make it sound so good....

that's a clever argument Glenn...

but imagining the manufacturing processes:

The shell should be drilled/perforated before chroming bath, so, you got all "normal" holes in order to hang the shell.... don´t you think?

I worked in a metal plating factory as a teenager. It is true that metal items are hung from conductive hooks that drape over the electrified rods that run across the tank. The item is wired to the bottom of the hook. You lower the item into the tank and hook it to the bar. Once everything is in that is going to be plated, the tank is turned on and the process of applying copper takes place, followed by nickel in the next tank and finally chrome in the third tank (thus the so called triple chrome plating). From plating it moves to the buffing shop for the final brightening process.

It is clear that a hole near the edge will reduce the likelihood of interference in the plating process in a visible location on the shell. If you look closely, you may even see the chrome is not as complete in the area of those holes, if indeed that is what the holes were used for. Despite this experience, I don't know why two holes would be needed. Maybe someone with more experience in plating can identify that part.

It occurs to me that two holes makes it quicker for the worker to locate one to use - always on one side or the other instead of having to find the side its on. It may have been seen as leading to additional efficiency in production.
