I just purchased an early Dynasonic and I was wondering how I could tell if the frame is original or a repop.

Serial # is 2021. Everything is there, rims, tension rods. 4 cracked lugs but I have 2 replacements, one steel and one NOS brass. 3 lugs have already been replaced with steel. Just curious about the frame. Hope these pictures are good enough. If not then I can get some better ones tomorrow.

I didn't know that there was an aftermarket snare rails available...???

That's the real deal, and a very early one. One of the first 1000 according to that snare frame.

Number should be between 1201-2000???

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Looks to me like a first gen frame. Quite valuable on its own. Two screws attach the butt end of the snare wires to the frame. The Rogers Book, by Rob Cook, pgs. 178-179. If you have one screw and two posts, its the 2nd production version. Your drum falls in the overlap. Gen 1 frames are seen on the first 1000 dynasonics. Your number falls in the second thousand beginning. Serials started at 1001. The serial dating guide in the book is off. Corrections were made in the 2nd edition....... right now I dont know where mine is.

If you need new wires, you would have to carefully modify puresounds to fit your frame.

Yes, that's the frame that I have. My main concern was as to whether it was original or a reproduction. Everything seems original, it still has the black elastics through the frame and the black tips on the corners. But I remember reading somewhere that there are reproductions and that someone who is knowledgeable enough will know it's a reproduction at first sight. And, well, I just ain't knowledgeable enough. Also Ploughman, what your saying is that mine should have the 2nd gen. frame? Or that maybe some of them were mixed up around the changeover point? I've always owned Ludwigs and I know they were notorious for doing things like that.

I have some brand new old stock original dynasonic snare wires, they have just a single mounting hole on each end of the wire.

Youre frame is most likely original to your drum. Nice find. I have Beavertail Drum number 2811, lowest number I have seen with Beavertail lugs. There are some bread and butter lugged drums with higher numbers. My drum is not an after factory modification. Beavertails are original to my shell.
