Dyna•Sonic Show & Ask Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi Guys!

Haven't posted much, mainly a lurker. Just completed the nicest Dyna•Sonic I've ever had the pleasure to love on, unfortunately, it's going to the auction block to pay da' man. My question is, knowing that Rogers had the highest quality of standard of any "production line" drums in the '60's, is it a rariety for the "D" stamp on the underside of the strainer to be "upside-down"? I've included a couple of pics & also a link to my Facebook (I hate these guys...but it's free) page for more images. Also, as long as I'm asking, the Rogers serial # time line during the early years is almost as confusing as Slingerland's, depending on who you ask. This drum is #11361 & looked as though it had never been cracked. Everything is correct, the only thing missing besides the original heads was one of the rubber bumpers on the frame. I'm thinking this puts it mid to late 60's. Any input???...this is a very cool piece, but something about it makes me "itchy"...any thoughts?

Anyway, I'll shut-up now...here's the pics...and link...

Thanks!

Nice drum. I have seen the stamp upside down on occasion. The 7 line dynas ended in the 10,xxx range, so your would be one of the earlier 5 line versions.

The upside down "D" makes your drum a little more quirkier than the other Dynas...I don't think that will take any value away from your drum...good luck.

I love my Dyna...completely untouched, never cleaned, bought from original owner years ago. Its not perfect, but if I ever get the time to clean and polish it, should be a real looker. All original except for the batter head, snare side head is original Rogers. Number is 29,930..OOPS, #21930, which I think was around '68 and either a late Dayton or early Fullerton origination.

Can someone clarify for me?

Thanks very much.

Oh, and if the upside down "D" bothers you, jus' turn the darn thing over! hahaha

Fungus!... ( why does that seem so odd to type??!! LOL! ) ...

Your COB Dynasonic with a serial of #11361 dates out to 1968, Dayton... so you were right in there on your guess!

Vipuronr!...

Your COB Dynasonic with a serial of #29930 dates out to approx. 1972, which would be Fullerton, CA production. You were very close too!

Thanks for the input guys! Yeah, not sure how the "Fungus" thing started, but it is unique to say the least.

My first thought was that the previous owner had turned the Tension Knob bracket over when cleaning, but the underside has an inset for the tensioning spring so that is the only way it can be assembled correctly...well, not the only way...I'm sure I could have found a way to screw it up! I got the whole thing back together & was in the process of tuning the bridge when I realized that I'd put the muffler on upside down. LOL!

Thanks again!

Dan

I have seven liner # 10407, that I got from Kelly Smith before he passed away. Yours is an early fiver, as has been stated.

Hi Tommy, how are things....hope all is well!

Made a slight boo boo (typo) on the number of my Dyna...it is actually sn #21930!!

Sorry, does that get me into the 60's and Dayton or still a CA snare of the 70's?

Thanks much.

Peter
