This is an odd bird. There are not that many Ludwig bass drums from this era with twin spurs. Fact is, there aren't that many Slingerland or Rogers from that era wearing twins either. It was very uncommon. Slingerland added twin spurs on the Buddy Rich kit in the very late 60s and followed up in the mid to late 70s with twin spur bass drums. Ludwig didn't offer twins until the mid to late 70s. The fact that this bass carries them extremely uneven points to a non-factory mod. That's relevant as it clarifies the OPs request.

Add to that the presence of a 13 inch Tom and a 14 inch floor and you add another wrinkle.

The presence and location of that model cymbal mount and no Tom mount adds yet another wrinkle.

The juxtaposition of the badge and the cymbal mount ... Yup, another wrinkle.

The bottom line - this is a very odd kit. It quickly becomes apparent that it is not a factory kit at all. That's where the members here had some fun ... How did these drums find themselves?

The OP was attempting to nail down the cat kit this might have grown from. That's what this thread has spoken to.

Thanks to everyone for their input, trust me when I say I am absolutely grateful! I do however need some clarification on a couple points, before I make my assessment on this kit.

Please disregard the spurs, I believe this is an add on, and no sence in beating a dead horse. My assumption on this is, that because of the 20" bass, they (previously) added them. They did however do it half right, as all 4 are correct to the era, down to them being nickel plated. The 13" tom had a chrome over steel hoop, as well as 5 out of the 6 tension rods were chrome also. For sure changed out later in time...agree??

My question (still learning so please bare with me a moment)....The tom is pre-serial, dated '63, the 20"bass is also pre-serial with no date present, so I would guess the bass is '63 also. Unless the unpainted resocoat enamel bass determines a different time of manufacturing? According to the cat ('64, but actually the '63 posted here), the club date outfit has the cymbal mount, as well as the badge placement where it is suppose to be. The only difference is this is a 20" (8 lug) as opposed to the 22" (10 lug). This cat photo also states a different floor tom than the 14x14 '64 model that I have, which easily could have been replaced at any time.

The key here - once it has been established that this is not a cat kit (which it has), all bets are off.

What you have is a VERY nice and VERY sweet drum kit that is top of the line. It's a mystery how it came together and that alone is fodder for some cool sleepless nights.

Thanks everyone for the information! And yes I will be bringing them back to life, regardless of cat kit or value. Interesting enough, seems there is a kit in blue sparkle, the same era (pre-serial) even the 20". Difference is that it is not a club date.
