Hi,

Great forum btw! I am thinking someone in here can shed some light on a supra I have.

Can anyone give me some information on a pre serial keystone badge supra? It has crimped beds, but is not brass. Was this common in this period? Also, when did they start making the aluminum alloy (Ludalloy) shelled supra? Thanks for your time.

Yes, it looks like your picture. I have owned pre serial brass shelled supra's in the past, but don't have one currently to compare. My reasons for believing this is not is:

1. Brass shelled supra's have a different chrome look to them...kind of a yellowing chrome. Hard to explain.

2. There is two small pin head flakes in the shell. Not big at all, but I had always thought that the brass didn't have this effect, as it does on the Ludalloy shelled supra's.

3. THE WEIGHT is the deciding factor.....this snare fully dressed weighs, 7lbs 4oz.....this is also with the COB rims. But THIS test is deceiving, as I have an extremely powerful magnet (used for keeping metal panels up to 30lbs in place), and I can get it to stick in places. Not very well, and not strong at all, but it will stick. I will try it again tonight, after I take the heads off, and a few lugs out, as the only possible explaination I can find, is it is picking up the steel from either the lug mounting bolts and cup washers, or the strainer/butt......I don't know!!

This snare has me stumped! Thank you for the reply!

Did they make a supra in this pre serial period that was alloy with crimped beds? Thanks for all your help.
