Early 70's Slingerland COW questions! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

New to the forum...

I've had this kit since the mid 70's that my dad picked up at a garage sale for me. They were already not taken care of at that point.

I was a young punk.. and beat the hell out of these things!

I'm finally going to put some time and money into them as they still sound great!

The kit is a monster! 2-26" kick drums, 13 15 18 and 20 inch toms.

My first question of many is...

The kit has 2-26" kicks? Looking through the info in the slingerland catalogs, I don't see any of the Chrome kits that have 26" bass drums? Is this normal?

Question 2...

How the hell do I get these clean? They have been sitting in the original cases at my moms house for 20+ years and are dirty as hell and starting to pit a little bit.

I could kick myself for neglecting this kit!

I will post some pics as I get them cleaned up!

Here's a pic of the floor tom. I'm assuming with that badge it's early 70's?

No this isn't a cataloged kit, but with (2) 26'Bass Drums who cares, Disassmble all the drums and clean all the parts in a slurry of Bar keepers friend and dawn/ Use barkeepers friend on the chrome wrap also it comes in a creme for this job. you can get it at lowes or Home depot.

Thanks for the reply!

As you can see in the pic, there are no bottom hoops. They were gone when I got the kit.... Boo

Would you recomend getting replacements at Drum factorydirect.com... Or hold out until I find some originals?

Those are great hoops from drumfactory.com they aren't 100% looking original the eyelets are more flared out than the originals are, But the originals are available on ebay and sometimes here in the for sale section of the forum. it's your call on that.

Yes 70's badges... If you check your serial numbers against the graph you may pin it down closer to a MFG year..

Cheers

You could order any finish on any drums in any combination from Slingerland so just because you don't see this particular combination in a catalog is meaningless. Sounds like a cool set. That chrome wrap is actual chrome plated steel so you can polish it the same as you might chrome parts on a car. The down side of that is that it can rust and/or dent if you don't take care of it.
