Early 70's Slingerland Kit Issues Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

This is a helpful thread!

I've just recently acquired a WMP 16x16 Slingerland floor tom vintage late 60's that has all of its hardware except the tom leg mounts/legs. So, at the moment, it truly is a "floor" tom.

I think this drum would likely have had the push button brackets with the mounting holes being 2 and 1/4" center-to-center.

Is there a source for more modern, new replacement brackets that would fit? The ones I've found so far seem to be smaller center-to-center. I'm wanting to avoid enlarging or drilling new holes. I basically just want the brackets and legs, and whether or not they're Slingerland doesn't matter. Thanks.

The push button brackets are a real pain the internal spring that compress to hold the legs in place over time becomes compressed enough to not hold the legs in place while playing!!! replace them with later slingerland brackets with the t bolts on them, the hole spacing is the same no drilling or worries at all!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I'm gonna go tertiary on this one. SWAP the push buttons for the winged brackets. If you want to eventually sell it, keep 'em and install 'em prior to the sale. If you want to play the drum, you need to make sure you don't have to chase it to the floor. There are many of them on ebay. You can also get some nice ones from JP2...when they're in stock.

thanks. To clarify: the drum I have has no leg mounting brackets at all. I'm more interested in playing this particular drum than collecting. That being said, I'm wanting to avoid drilling new holes or elongating the existing holes. I have, for example, a complete set of 3 legs/brackets (LP brand, of all things!). However these are 2" center-center, and the Slingerland's need 2 and 1/4" center-center.

Are there any modestly priced, wing nutted generic tom leg mounts that are 2 and 1/4" center-center. I'm not needing accurate reproductions other than that they fit the existing mounting holes. I didn't see anything on JP2 like this (I've checked today and in the past). I've been following ebay lately on these tom mounts (non-push buttons), and I'm totally amazed at the prices for a single floor tom leg mount - I just saw one mount go for 50-something dollars!

None of the generic or other brand brackets that I have found use the same hole spacing. That's why replacements are stupid pricey.

I've found it cheaper to find "beater" '70s and '80s floor toms and rob the parts. Slingerland used the same floor tom bracket hole spacing from the late '50s into the '80s.

It's better not to re-drill or mess with the holes, as that will kill any resale value on the drum.

Thanks!!!

I'm imagining that a few people sold their toms without the brackets (for whatever benign reason), and then the new owners needed to find a source, and this started a cascading effect of tom's getting "parted out" for the brackets. Kind of a grand game of musical chairs!

Well, I will look for beater toms and try to keep a distance from my dremel tool.
