I'd be very interested to know what were the earliest drum instruction books. I have ' stick control' and 'accents and rebounds' ( George lawrence stone) and a couple of 'thin' books by charlie wilcoxin, pardon me if I've spelled that wrong. These are great books to go through for snare drum technique. Obviously there will be more, for example what were the first books for the early trap set drummers ( trap set independence?) it would be super interesting if we could see photos of loads of books from say the early 1900s to 1960s 50s .what books did the early jazz swing drummers have available for them? And I wonder what the first rock method book was. Keep on Pl
Early drum method books Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Funny you should bring this up! I just bought this book at GoodWill because I saw the 1917 first edition date inside. It's a reprint, but it is one of the earliest drum books I have found. I'll let you know more about it when it arrives. I know that Gustave Moeller had published books on his method around the turn of the last century. Being a Moeller player I'd love to get my hands on one of those!

Yeah I've never actually taken the plunge and bought/studied the moeller method but have been considering it.
I had a good instructor when I was 15 that taught me the technique and later on in life I discovered this material from Jim Chapin who was Moeller's number one student. I highly recommend Jim Chapin's video on Moeller technique. It's the best break down of the method I've encountered. Get the video at Amazon.com. Learning the Moeller technique allowed me to break through walls that had previously completely frustrated me. It'll open up drumming for you in way that few other things can. Worth the time, work and practice it takes to master it.

A big thanks to you for taking the time to show those vids. I originally posted just cos I was interested just in the historical thing of ' vintage' drum books, but yes I definitely think I could gain a lot from getting a book on the moeller technique.:D
