Ebay issues Last viewed: 56 minutes ago

I’ve bought some items from EBay in the past but recently I started selling and I have found plenty of flaws in the system which has led to lots of aggravation. I realize that EBay is massive, the amount of product sold and bought is enormous, but I think they can improve a few things; here are some of my complaints.

In the last 2 months I had 2 buyers who won my items and never paid, and never returned any of my e mails. I call these buyers dead beats. Maybe I’m in the lower percentage of people, but when I bid on an item, for one thing I don’t go out of town when the item is ending, normally I will sit in front of the computer and after the auction is done, if I won, I hit the pay now button, so I pay in like 2 minutes. It irritates me to no end why a person would bid on an item, not pay, and not even return a message. Ok, your dog died, I can accept that, you broke you arm, accepted, you got sick and are in bed, fine, just say something……..so now Ebay gives buyers 4 days to pay, which is ridiculous, it should not be more than 2 days Max, that’s plenty of time to log on your computer and hit one button right? In both cases I never heard from either buyer, I had to wait 4 days to file a case, another 4-5 days to cancel the transaction, now I still have the item that I THOUGHT I sold, and lost all the other potential bidders I had.

Another flaw is the fact EBay does not allow a seller to post negative feedback to warn other sellers about these dead beats. So now these same DB are out there bidding on stuff, they have no intention to buy causing stress for other sellers. Sorry sellers, I wanted to warn you about this guy but EBay won’t let me.

Now I’m in the middle of another issue that may cause me negative feedback, and I did nothing wrong. I sold a cymbal, I described is as used in mint condition, I showed a picture of the actual cymbal, so when the buyer got it, he sends me a message saying, this cymbal is dirty and may have a crack in the edge, do you want it back? . First of all, it was not dirty, it was just as seen in the picture I call it patina, which gives cymbals character, now he says and I quote “it may have a crack on the edge” what does that mean? It may have a crack, either it does or it doesn’t. I know it didn’t when I shipped it. Now this guy has buyer remorse, he bought something he either didn’t want, low on cash, or is looking for loop holes to return it. If I’m wrong, or I sent an item with a defect I will be the first to own up to it and refund the buyer. I plan on asking him if he continues to harass me, to send me a picture of the defect. Now I’m thinking he might have got the cymbal and played it with his band, smashed the hell out of it, cracked it (if it is in fact cracked) and now wants to return it. He can potentially give me negative feedback and hurt my reputation and I can’t do a thing about it. Sorry, I’m done for now.

Bummer about your bad experiences right out of the gate.

I'd have the guy send back the cymbal and then refund his money.... it's just not worth the hassle. If the crack's not there, you probably won't have a problem with the next buyer.... what is it, by-the-way? Someone around here might want it?

Agreed. Refund and move on unless he did in fact damage the cymbal.... That's why I recommend good photos before shipping.

It was a Paiste Sig 17" full crash, winning bid was $199 plus ship

what I might ask him to do is send me pictures of what he is talking about, I know though it was perfect when I shipped it.

I just hope he isn't going to try and send you his cracked cymbal in place of yours. Crap like this is why a guitar guy I know stopped using E bay. He got back a guitar that had changed parts. I hope this won't be the case.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Keep the money and take the feedback if he so chooses. If you know it wasn't cracked why negotiate any further? There are worse things in life than bad ebay feedback! Patronizing this individual will only serve to empower him to pull the same maneuver on the next guy!

From vintagemore2000

This is some of the bad side of ebay, keep us posted on the out come.

It's because of this kind of aggravating crapolla, plus all the damn fees, that caused me to close my accounts with ebay and it's black-hearted brother, Paypal over 6 months ago. Over two-hundred transactions with 100% positive feedback. It just isn't worth the money or aggravation. I trade/sell here at VDF exclusively now. My drums go to drummers, I get paid with US Postal m.o.'s and everybody is happy.

Ebay sux. Period. I really hope you can get this resolved in your favor, Sling. I hate hearing ebay horror stories especially if they involve people I know or like.

Good luck for a favorable resolution,

John

Too many great drums to list here!

OK..... let's see which other monster businesses, products, or services can get skewered here. May I suggest, for no other reasons than they are at the top of their market segments, that someone start rants against some of the following category leaders? The larger the market segment, the larger the probability that a miniscule sampling of all customers will have grievances--some of them legitimate. But, if the customer dissatisfaction is widespread enough, that entity would rapidly fall in prominence.

Here are a few...Have at them!

Amazon

Fox News

The Harry Potter series

Starbucks

Walgreens

Fender

Hospital Corp of America

Jello

Apple

Ludwig

Kleenex

Sony

Bic

Roland

Bausch and Lomb

Zildjian

Macy's

Coca Cola

Harvard University

Labrador Retrievers

Rolex

Microsoft

shall I go on?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Thought I'd put my 2 cents in...

I regularly sell through eBay with the same username. Please fell free to check out my items for sale!

I've had issues with eBay, too. In fact, I had 5 or 6 "dead-beat" bidders/winners a couple of months ago over a two-week period. One of them on a Club Date set that sold for big bucks. In each case I had other bidders who, by the time the 8 day window closed the other bidders had found the items elswhere or had changed their minds. I had a "dead-beat" winner on a Supra-400 that I later sold to member on this forum. Made him a good deal 'cause I was needing some cash flow.

And, even though my feedback is (still) at 100% and my DSR is at least 4.8 on each category, I've had "wacko" customers who I've had to just take a loss to pacify them. Funny thing about that -- IF you're a seller, eBay will really whack you if you even hint at using feedback to "manipulate" sales; but they do seem to let buyers get by with almost anything.

And, I think their fees are too steep, too. BUT -- I live in an area that is mostly small towns and rural areas and can't generate enough cash-flow without eBay. I do "consign" drums and sets at a local music store, but 1) they of course have "fees" as well, and 2) don't have enough traffic to keep me in enough cash-flow either.

On the other hand, by far MOST of my transactions (98% of better) have been good ones. Through eBay I've made a LOT of contacts that have delevoped into regular customers out-side of eBay, some of whom are also members of VDF. I put stuff up on eBay with minimum bids that I can live with after I've figured in their fees so that I can come out OK.

I'm 56, got laid-off my big-money manufacturing job almost 2 years ago, and even though I'm employed full-time again I NEED this business to supplement our income. And love every minute of it, even though I have to put up with "feeBay."

So, SOMETIMES you have no choice but to take the good-with-the-bad. That's what I do, and I just always try to make the best of it...
