Ebay Seller Warning (Jazz Combo listing) Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

This drum is a bad re-wrap and the seller is horrible to deal with. I won the last auction on this at about $515 plus shipping. He denied it was a re-wrap even after I showed the incorrect seam, and have been backed up by two third-party experts. Paypal were useless and denied claim. I deferred to my bank who came through. I returned the drum in its original condition.

I suspect a partial layer of mahogany was ripped off during the removal of old wrap. It wasn't filled before the new wrap was applied. There are a number of bumps and indentations in the wrap. It is not even original Ludwig wrap.

My feedback can be seen in his history.

PM me if you need further details.

It's a worry that they don't know it is called a Jazz Combo. Obviously you do.

And where's the muffler if it is all original? And the holes if the muffler was removed and it wasn't rewrapped of fixed up on the inside? I didn't see any leftover muffler holes, but maybe that's my old eyes. Or did they fail to photograph in just the right place to reveal the holes which should be there? Just by chance?

And have they carefully avoided any photo which would show the seam and the fact that the wrap should go back into the scarf? Or is that just chance too?

Do they know they are misdescribing it, or have they chosen their words like a crafty lawyer:

The drum is in the VERY same UnAltered condition( exception of Changed Heads ) as it was when Originally purchased from Pro Drum ...

Which claims not that it is "all factory original" but rather that "it is as it was" when they got it used from Pro Drum Shop in Hollywood. So does that mean Pro Drum Shop re-wrapped it and removed the muffler (or some previous owner) and this seller rumblekltr will claim they are off the hook?

Sigh.

3x13 Jazz Combos don't have mufflers, but 4x13 Las Vegas models do.

Regardless, this seller is the most revolting person I have ever dealt with on eBay. After sending a very clear email stating the obvious flaws and quoting his/her listing that stated it was in original condition, I received a slew of harassing emails over two days. The language was faux-legalese and in broken english with hyperbolic use of capitals for emphasis. He basically attempted to get me to incriminate myself by answering leading questions about the state I'd left the drum. All I'd done was take the heads off and take pictures of the modifications, and very carefully.

A friend just emailed him to ask if it had been re-wrapped. He responded using language from my initial email, stating that it probably was.

I'll be checking out that other dodgy seller. Thanks, Mikey.

Sorry this happened to you my friend.I know how it feels when somone is obviously perpetrating a scam and feigns ignorance by cleverly wording their discription of an item.I just sent a polite email to the seller concerning his drum.It will be interesting to see if he responds.I did not mention your transaction nor this forum in my inquiry. Thanks for the heads up on the seller. Those of us who just want an honest transaction need to know about these humanoids.

I looked at the listing the day it listed. I then went to the feedback, and noticed the same snare re-listed. I read your feedback, so I emailed the seller asking if it was a re-wrap. His first response was, he didn't know, then I asked him if the wrap was "layered" into the shell. He responded with, it was a re-wrap, but was done 30+ years ago before he acquired it...either way, a re-wrap. Thanks for your feedback! Gave me a heads up!

Thanks for the info. My 1959 transition badge one does, so I presumed that they normally came that way. Maybe mine is the unusual one. Or maybe they had to leave them off when they changed from round knob mufflers to the baseball bat, for some reason of space.
