Ebay troubles Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I bought this drum today - in a hurry, because I thought ......being a "Radio King" as advertised in the auction....it would be a great chance to own one of these beautiful Slingerland drums - a very good deal. I jumped on it without even looking close or checking the photos out.

Here's what I found is wrong with the Auction and what prompted me - quickly....within minutes after buying the drum...to contact the seller have him cancel my purchase and give me a full refund.

1) It turns out it's NOT a RK....it's a Concert King....maybe worth $200 or so.

2) The badge looks to be tampered with = the newish looking aluminum grommet.

3) The lugs have obviously been switched out - note the imprints of the original lugs.

4) The batter hoop at least looks too modern....maybe a 70's copy I've been told today by a Slingerland expert.

5) There appear to be NO Radio King stamps on the hoops as well.

I only found all this out a few minutes after I bought the drum.

It may be a nice old drum, but it's not worth the $375 USA plus shipping to me.

I sent four emails to the seller today and he has not replied.

I feel that I should having no trouble getting a refund because of the fact the auction title states the drum is a Radio King....and that's what I thought I was buying.

The seller may have made an honest mistake....if I give him that....I think he still should give me a full refund because he now knows .....or aught to know from the emails I sent him today.....that this is clearly not a Radio King snare drum.

Gary I saw your post on facebook about it, I was going to comment but you already had the advice you need to get a refund, you can file a snad with ebay if the buyer doesn't comply with you.

The seller obviously sells mostly drums. A reasonable person would think that their ebay listings would be pretty accurate regarding drum description. Whether it's an honest mistake or not you're due a full refund. The fact is that is is not a Radio King. It is a Concert King. The seller was 100% incorrect. Argument over. You win. Good luck.

The seller takes returns, so if the seller ships the drum, return it and be done with it. I'm assuming you've made it clear in your email to him that it is not as described. File a not as described case with Ebay now to insure you don't get stuck for shipping, and I bet the seller responds to your emails.

If he ends up shipping it and you have to send it back make sure you insure it for what you paid for it and pay for delivery confirmation. You want a clear paper trail of it leading back to the seller.

Thanks guys - what a hassle. It appears to already have been shipped. The other part of this is that I chose to have it shipped to the USA so now I will have to drive into the USA to ship it back....about $30 in gas and 4+ hours round trip. Ebay says I will have to wait until I get the item to file the "Not As Described" claim.

What I am finding out through all this is that eBay is very difficult to get in touch with. I haven't tried to phone them - I guess I will try that today.

Wow seller shipped the drum as soon as the auction ended.

Seemingly to get it out of his possession asap to justify taking your payment.

Questionable track record on ebay as well.

Sorry for your troubles. People like this give ebay a bad name.

I spent some time on this and finally got an answer from the seller. He still is convinced that somehow this drum is a "RadioKing". I sent him an email with some direct quotes from two experts that point out why his drum is a Concert King and not a Radio King. I was polite and why not....it is still a nice drum, but it's not worth the $375 I paid (so the experts tell me).

I asked for a partial refund. I only offered this because the drum has already left California....it's on it's way to Oroville Wa. - my USA postal drop. I told him I live in Canada and it was my choice to make the 4+ hr. round trip into the USA to pick the drum up. I explained that it is frustrating because I'm not picking up the drum I wanted. I would have been very much willing and happy to make the trip to pick up a Radio King...but not a School grade Concert King worth at the most $200 (expert opinion on this drums worth).

I will post the outcome here.

Thanks for all the replys guys.

"Shell is in very good condition" ?

I would rate the shell as Fair..maybe Fair +...wouldn't even say Good....

I think Stewie is a member on here...he is on DFO or here or both...look him up under that name....

Re it NOT being a RK...my understanding is it is only a true RK if it has it right on the top rim....is that right?

I think the drum is from the late 40's..look at the screws holding the lugs on...those are old style...

$375,without an arm,and in that condition is too much.....
