Hey all. Got this email the other day. Ed Cassidy, of "Spirit" turns 87 this month. Planning it to be his final gig. He was a major influence in my direction. Spirit was one of the most innovative bands out there. His drumming and taste has always been way above the herd. If you're on the Central Cali coast, it'd be worth going to. I'll be there..

Anyway, not may of us around San Luis Obispo on the forum. I'm asking anybody who enjoyed his music and presence to add B-Day and thanks for the inspiration notes here. I'll print them up, and present them to him in person. It'd be great to take a big stack of pages to him......Thanks, Bill D.

Went to a concert at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1968. Lineup was Spirit, The Grassroots, and the Fifth Dimension. When Spirit came on (they opened) I recall looking at the drum kit and thinking WTF???!!! LOL

I met Ed years ago. I was working at a music festival and Spirit headlined. I spoke with him several times on the phone before and after. They travelled without drums at that time and a kit was to be provided. Well of course it did not show up in time for sound check. I had mine in the truck so I let him use mine for the show. He was very gracious. He tuned them all funny. I had a show the next night and it took me awhile to get things back to normal. Randy C was of course still alive and I had a couple goes with him at souncheck, good player.
