Emerald Brand drums? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

When I had my subscription to M.D.in the 80's I remember seeing ads for Emerald drums, and they looked like variations of M.I.T.'s,like R.O.C.drums.Assembled Taiwan drums with probably Luan cores and other inner and outer plies. They had a high-line set at Paragon Music in St.Pete,FL.with gold hardware.Looked like emerald green lacquer covering, and they had the Emerald branded lugs, too. For what it's worth,at that time Tama's build quality SMOKED everyone but Premier.Low point in American drum history, and I was a Gretsch ADDICT.

I have two 8x8 toms Emerald toms on a stand marked Juggs that I am about ready to part with-got them out of a music store in Indpls in the 80's for add-ons to a kit out in a houseband gig I had. These are what I would call heavy and have withstood a lot-they seem to be about 7ply and I think they were display drums to show the different color avail as the black tom has black hardware on bottom and gold on top (hoops and lugs) and the other is two different also with finish top half is a zebrawood type and the bottom is like a Cocobolo look with chrome hoops on both ends with chrome lugs-clear heads but the black one has a black bottom head which all heads say Emerald "just a beat ahead" and the lug casings all have the Emerald name cast into them-a small sticker says made in taiwan on each drum-these sound especially nice for a latin flavor with rimshots

and really have always left them tuned pretty high-as long as I have kept these I will probably miss them but I have way too many drums in the room and want more room so.....ps tried to upload pics that I do the size for Craigslist but the forum said they are too large so I dunno...too much to fool with right now sorry

I sure get a lot of compliments on the look and sound of the drums. The Bubinga wrap is warm. Coated Ambassadors add some pop.

From Altar Drums

Can anyone confirm the 'Emerald' brand of drum? Am being told they are birch and made by Pearl in the early 80s???? Hmmmm

I just picked up a set of Emerald Drums yesterday at a re-use type of shop here in Ohio. Will be glad to forward pics of drums, badge, etc.
