Hey everyone,

I bought some Evans sound off mute pads for my drums. So I can practise as long and when I want at home. Without the the neighbours complaining.

Would the sound off pads damage the bearing edges of the drums?

This May be a stupid question, but my Ludwig Legacy set is very valuable to me so I tought. I'll ask it to be sure.

No more than regular playing of the drum without the mute would. Force should be evenly distributed around the bearing edge, resulting in something that the drum is structurally designed to withstand.

I used similar drum mutes for years with no ill effects to the bearing edges or any other part of the drum.

I'll use this response to introduce myself here as well - Hi, everyone!

I've used soundoffs on occasion for a long time. They don't hurt the drums or heads at all and they're very effective. They reduce sound while still hearing differing tones in the drums. BUT, I have experienced a very annoying tendency for them to leave a blackened (and sometimes purplish mixed in) stain on the cymbals if left on the same spot long term. It's almost like a chemical reaction to the metal rather than a stain. I always take them off the cymbals immediately after using them.
