Extra Hole On BIG R Dynasonic? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

I scored a XP-8 Rogers Kit a week or so ago and was taking everything a part for a good cleaning and came across this strange extra hole underneath the bottom hoop. I am guessing the hole is not factory and was wondering why anyone would put a hole there? It does look clean like the 2 factory holes for the strainer above it. Anyone seen something like this on their later Dynasonics?

I've seen the same thing and believe it has something to do with the manufacturing method. Some other members probably know more about this.

Thanks Buckie! That would be great if that was how they came from the factory. Everything else about the snare seems spot on. Minus the missing snare frame of course.

Both of my Fullerton Script badge Powertone snares have this hole (maybe 2 holes?).

I believe it is a drain hole to allow the plating solution to run out of the bottom groove created by the folded over bearing edge.

But there may be a better reason for it...

Green felt or black felt under the lugs?

This drum dates from 1983.

Green Felt. Once I got the kit it seemed like a mixed bag Londoner.

All XP-8 Shells. The 12 inch rack tom was an earlier make with a serial of D 959828 and the more decorative rogers memriloc t-bolt. The 13 inch serial is D 119334, Floor Tom D 959916 and kick drum D 103612. These 3 drums all have later less decorative looking t-bolts on the memorilocs.

That hole was there to allow the shell to be suspending in the plating tank. Almost every COB Dyna I've ever seen has had them.
