FAIR market price on lugs? Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Seems like this thread should be in the for sale section, or is it Ok to advertise here and then list in the for sale section as well?

Blairndrums, its obvious that you sell a ton of parts and have for many many years. Have you not sussed out how to figure out market value after all these years?

I paid around $13 for a minty Gretsch double headed snare lug.

Maybe too much, but I needed it.

Sanityclause,

prices tend to be all over the place..with prices appearing to be on the decline...thats why I asked...I don't live on Feebay all the time like some people do....

I have been asking $3-5 a lug on average for years for large/small lugs, but that seems to be too high .

..People act like they should be $2-4 each...maybe $1-3 each even...

A single new Ludwig lug,made in Taiwan/China, with a discount, is $12!

Snare lugs/rare lugs are at a premium to find,so I tend to ask more for them..

I see, so asking here and waiting for a consensus of responses was quicker than going to the Ebay completed listing which takes all of two minutes? Hardly qualifies as "living on Ebay"..... And what have you decided regarding price from your poll in the vintage section? All lugs now $2 ?

The way I see it is you're advertising because there is more traffic here in the Vintage section than in the for sale section. Plain and simple. But if I'm wrong, and its Ok to advertise here please let me know. I don't want to break any forum norms or unspoken rules.

I've been visiting these forums for a few years now and I get so much from most everyone who participates. Its a great resource. What I have a problem with is that it seems more and more its all about buying, flipping and profiting which is all well and good in its proper place. It would be nice to keep that separate and refrain from the advertising in the Vintage section.

Regarding fair market price on lugs, I recently purchased 10 very nice Rogers tom lugs (clean chrome with very slight pitting) for $20 on the Bay. For mint, I'd gladly pay $4 per lug, but that's about my limit. At $5 per lug, I'd be looking at $60 just for the lugs on one small tom, plus $40 for the hoops and $25 for the collet. Thats $125 just to put the hardware on a bare shell without heads or t-rods added.

Now I don't restore drums to resell or "flip" them as many members here do (and nothing wrong with that), so I don't have to take expense and investment vs. profit into consideration, but even as a player, I can't see spending $180 to assemble a tom which I could purchase intact and original for about $100 on CL. The high prices on hardware and parts are making it impractical and excessively expensive to save old shells.

Just my :2Cents:.
