felt strips for kick drums Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Some drums come with a felt muffler, most companies use it as an option. Factory will have it incorperated in the drum.

If you`re going to make your own, the with is to taste but leave it a little long to come out the hoops. People do that to tighten it back up when it stretches. pull tighter to change tone.

I never suggest the pillow unless you remove it after gigs or practice ect. A pillow in there all the time will leave a moisture stain on the wood but the SS kit don`t need to worry bout that !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Are you set on using felt strips for any reason? I've tried them in the past but, am now very pleased with the vintage Ludwig bass muffler that I was fortunate enough to acquire. I too have a 20 inch bass from around 1970. It's a Star and it thumps with no ring at all (Drum Image Gallery, Star Set in Turquoise).The bass mufler is from the 40's and is pristine condition. As well as serving its purpose, I think that it actually enhances the look of the kit. Just an opinion. To each his own.

Hey Brian,

Here is my reason;

1. I think it originally came with one

2. If I remove the foam block that is in there, I get some great boom but with a

touch of ringing. I want the boom and I'm hoping that strip(s) will clear

the ringing. We'll see.

3. I saw a YT clip with Jeff Ocheltree applying one on a Vistalite bass and I

thought it was a cool trick.

I'm not 100% sold, but thought it would be a cheap solution if it works to my satisfaction.
