Fibes for sale? Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Loading...

Well, I am thinking about selling my Fibes kit. I want to build another kit and need money to fund it so I am trying to decide what to sell. Looking on ebay completed listings is not a lot of help. So I am just asking people here what they would pay for this set of drums. Forget the high starting price, I mean what would you think these will actually go for?

Here is some detail,

Sizes are 14x24, 10x14, 16x16 (not in picture), 16x18.

I am thinking about keeping the snare drum so lets not include it for now.

The 16x16 has been re-wrapped with real stainless steel, so it looks great but not original. The rest of the drums are original wraps and are in what I would call good shape, not excellent but from ten feet they look awesome!

Some hoops and tension rods may not be original. But, all other hardware like the lugs and mounts are original, and, no holes.

If anyone is interested please keep in mind I do not want to ship these, they weigh a ton!

Thanks for your help!

Nice kit and I'm a big Fibes fan. I've got a similar set up and based on experience I'd suggest around $600 for the kit without the snare. Maybe a bit more or less, depending on how much someone wants it. The positives are the absence of extra holes but the fact that there would be an obvious mismatch on quality of wrap would be an issue for some.

There are postings on Ebay with people asking 300 or 400 for one floor tom, but those have been up for ages and never seem to move. I imagine if you were to sell, you would actually want it to move inside a year!

Of course if you add the snare in that makes it a thousand dollar kit, but I can understand your reluctance to part with that.

Just my 2 cents.... others feel free to chime in.

Thank you. When I brought them home they looked pretty rough and I didn't think they would clean up very good. So, I removed the wrap from the 16 thinking I would re-wrap the whole kit. It felt wrong so I stopped and gave the other drums another chance at polishing up and they turned out good. Lesson learned, but the newly wrapped 16 fits right in with the others, I need to take a picture of them all together. The snare drum by the way was re-wrapped also, but that drum had already been re-wrapped by someone else who did a crappy job.

Yes, I remember the thread you started regarding the whole Fibes chrome project so I feel like I know those drums pretty well even though I've never seen them! I owe you a word of thanks because your whole experience caused me to not even think about removing the wrap from a similar kit that I picked up a few months ago, and I am very pleased with how they turned out.

The only problem with my kit is that it had a factory installed Rogers Big R mount on the bass drum. The toms are all original with correct mounts and no extra holes, but not the whole Fibes experience. I also found a matching snare separately that cleaned up pretty nice, although the thread you did on the snare rewrap got me interested in trying that one day.

Good luck on whatever you decide with the kit. Here is a picture of my kit:

Yours look great! Are those floor toms the same size? Glad to hear others had learned from my mistakes. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I will try and get the kit put together with the 16 and take a pic or two to post here. That way maybe it will be easier for others to comment.

Thank you!

The floor toms are 16 and 18, which is nice. They are both in pretty good condition with no extra holes and all correct hardware. I picked them up from a woman in the Bay Area whose brother was a gigging drummer in from the 1970's onwards and sadly died in his 50's. He had them from new and used them until the early 80's when he moved to Tama. She held onto them for many years after he died. I promised her I would treat them well and sure enough they cleaned up beautifully.

As I mentioned I got the snare separately on Ebay. I won this auction

($160!)... deals can be had I guess. You can see the before pictures in the Ebay listing and here's a picture I just took with my iPhone. It was missing a hoop which I had and I was lucky enough to pick up two sets of the correct Puresound Fibes replacement snare wires from the excellent Bentley's Drum Shop in Fresno. Now she's good to go and I must say that the snare in particular sounds amazing.
