Fibes in Arkansas Last viewed: 31 minutes ago
The Fibes are in my dad's possession now. The seller even delivered them to West Memphis! (Since I agreed to pay $200, which also included a Roc N Soc thone- something I also happened to be in the market for.)
When I get the drums back to Maryland early next month, I'll post them on this forum. I'm hoping to keep the snare and the throne, and sell the rest of the kit after giving a it "no-cost" reconditioning. Maybe I'll make a few bucks on top of the "free" snare and throne.
Sweet deal! If you're keeping the snare, maybe check the glue that attaches the wrap to the shell (I'm assuming fibreglass?). If there is rust and it sounds a bit dull you might want to do re-wrap. On mine the chrome sprung off when i took the lugs off for cleaning! Anyway once re wrapped they had a lot more resonance.
Thanks for the tip on the wrap. The snare will be in my regular player snare rotation if it sounds anywhere near as good as my buddy's Austin era COF snare does (and why woundn't it?). It will get the full detail treatment, and if I find that the wrap is not secure, I'll look into rewrapping with the original covering to help with resonance.
The rack tom and kick, eh.. they'll need some love. My dad sent some pics. There's aluminum duct tape around the tom mount hole. Yuck! Oh well, for what I paid... plus the most distressed drums are sometime the most fun to bring back...
