Fibes SFT Acrylic Snare Throw Off Question Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Hi Yall!

I have this Fibes snare currently on ebay, and there have been a couple questions on the throw off. Does anyone know a ton about this era of Fibes drums? There seems to be a question to as if the throw off handle is original or not. There are not context clues within the rest of the thrashed set that I got this drum with that the previous owner was the kind of mechanical genius it would take to fabricate and install a throw handle like this. Rather than chrome, this one seems to be raw metal. The rest of the kit was pretty beat...mounts stripped, 2 of the other 4 drums cracked, hardware missing, cymbal stands rigged up with duct tape etc.

At any rate, I would greatly appreciate any info on this drum so that I can pass it along to prospective buyers. I am not trying to dupe anyone here. I wanna make sure people know what they are getting! The drum is all original including the snare wires, the hoops, rods, rod washers, etc etc so I have no reason to believe that this throw was fabricated and added. If the rest of the kit is any clue, I think if the throw broke, they would have just duct taped it back on, left it, or drilled new holes to add some cheap one. It is for this reason that I am selling the snare separately (it is correct and original with no cracks). The rest of the kit is a players kit and deserves to be sold for a reasonable price to someone who wants to rock some acrylic drums on tour without worrying about wrecking them.

Thanks so much for your input!

Never seen one like that. I would say the guy made it. Shape and everything is right though. I have heard of someone breaking the arm so that would maje sense that it could be replaced.

Right, but is it original. The attachment looks factory to me. I dont see how someone could make that and put it on the drum considering how inept the other "repairs" are with the kit.

As I recall (just seeing, never owned one), the Diecast original lever is a little more slender and does not flare out in width from the pivot point.. I'd have to agree with tillerva that it is a functional fabricated repair..

(click for bigger size)

It is brand new, never been mounted. So this is (one way?) they looked!

This one is NOT diecast.

Yes indeed... that is NOT an OEM handle on the SFT throw, or as Fibes called it: Snare release. That "handle" is a repair... and not badly done at all from a pure FUCTION point of view. Interestingly, this is not the first time I have seen this type of repair on the handle portion of the SFT throw. Fibes never offered the SFT throw in this configuration... but a nice utilitarian fix regardless.

Thanks Tommy! That sounds like the definitive answer I was looking for! It works as it should, and kinda looks cool with the "smoke" color.

The drum is for sale, so I dont think Ill be replacing it. Looks like it is pretty affordable to purchase a correct one though....so thats good to know.

Thanks again,

Asdam
