Fibes snare, wood grain wrap? Last viewed: 13 hours ago

Hey all. Just acquired a Fibes SFT 690 in chrome and another Fibes snare shell in a wood grain wrap. Was curious if this could be original, or if it likely a re-wrap. The seller didn't know, said that's how he got it a few years back.

I've attached a few pictures and you can see in two of them that it appears some chrome can be seen where the wood grain has chipped. I don't want to peel away any of the wrap, was just curious if anyone had any thoughts.

NOT a Fibes offered wrap/finish. Most certainly a re-wrap, and especially so that you found chrome underneath! Also, that rectangular Fibes/CFMartin badge is the 3rd badge and dates the drum from 1970 to 1973/74!

A friend of mine rewrapped a set (Premiers that had faded from WMP to a sickly yellow color) back in the day using woodgrain peel and stick contact paper (actually some type of vinyl I think) . It looked very similar to what you have there. It would almost have to be something thin like that to be put over the original chrome wrap and still have heads fit. If that's what it is it should be fairly easy to remove.

From those pictures it doesn't look like chrome peaking through to me. Are you sure its not the fiberglass shell you are seeing?

it appears chrome in person, pictures aren't quite doing it justice.

Whatever the 2nd wrap is, it is definitely thin, as heads fit without any issue.

I think I'll probably leave it intact for now, I don't really mind the look.
