I bet they would appeal to more folks than you think.

Well, I was told by a friend of mine who owns a drum shop and has seen and played a ton of drums, that of all the acrylic kits he's come across, the Austin era Fibes were the best sounding. I've know they sound better than the Ludwig vistalites I've owned. They are not as harsh or bright as you would think, they are also built better than the older kits, they won't crack as easily. I've been wanting a maple Austin era Fibes kit, but for now, these will do just fine.

There's one not too far from me, if you want me to check it out.

Who wouldn't want an amber acrylic set?

Here is my Fibes kit (2000). 16x22, 11x13,16x18, and matching 6x14 snare.

I think I just found my kits big brother, nice! How do you like them?

They sound fantastic, and are (were) built to last.

I can't think of a single bad thing to say about them! Great deep tone that always gets compliments, and the hardware and fittings are top notch.

The SFT snare strainer and the design of the bass drum spurs help set them apart from other companies. I like that there are retaining clips on the bottom of the bass drum to store the spurs during transport.

The shells and seams are flawless, but most importantly, the drums just sound perfect.

That's a really beautiful kit. I've never really thought about a fiberglass kit, but that amber is gorgeous AND SUPER hip looking!Walking

How does their tone compare to wood shells?

In my opinion, these acrylic drums do not sound that much different than wood drums. I don't think anyone listening would know, at least not right away.

In a blind test, most people would assume they were wood.

Acrylic is more of a visual difference than an aural difference. I am well aware that sophisticated equipment can show us how the sustain and frequencies of the two are not the same, but it is very subtle.

Cool, thanks. AndDOH...I suppose fiberglass wouldn't be translucent like acrylic.

Thanks,
