finally got a ludwig speed king pedal Last viewed: 16 hours ago

I've been using a cheap Mapex pedal for years (even on the vintage Yamaha set i had, yikes!). The pedal is fine to be honest. It came with a Venus set from the early 90s.

I have always wanted a Speed King. I've read a lot of hype about it over the years. And a loooong time ago i saw a Marky Ramone interview, he said the only pedal he'd ever use is a Soeed King, and being a huge punk rock fan, I knew that was the pedal i wanted.

Never got to play one until the one I bought came in the mail yesterday. Bought one from a fellow member here.

Way cool pedal! I love it. I works so well, its responsive.

I'm sure there are modern pedals just as good, but I'm sold on the speed king.

I've wanted to try a dw9000 pedal, too.

I'll just stick with what I've got!

I shouldn't of waited so long to buy this pedal. I've been missing out.

don't get me wrong, the dw9000 is a nice pedal.. but it has so many different adjustment combinations available that you can get frustrated and lost easily while trying to find your favorite setup. I've had it for several months now and I think I may have finally found the right setting on it.

The speed king however- two screws for the spring tension and that's it! Clamp it on the bass drum hoop and GO!

Been playing a Speed King since 1963. I've tried umpteen other pedals... Speed King is the simplest and the best. It is why the design hasn't been altered much in 80 years. If it ain't broke...

Can they be like snares though?

Go through 100 of the exact models...and maybe 10 jump out as superior?

I love my late 50's WFL SpeedKing. I have two very nice Girbraltar 9600 Intruder Series pedals = a single and double...they work fine. However; I've been using my SK since it came to me in an old tattered cardboard box (a goodies box of gear thrown in with an old beat up shellpack I bought) in the Fall of 2009. It was completely seized...I unseized it, cleaned it up and it works like a dream - very impressive....love the action.

Which i don't really like to much as well like i do the Speed King

I keep going back to mine also.When I finally got new Ludwigs in high school.It was first real pedal.

I have the Tama/camco,early Iron cobra,iron cobra Jr. and the current iron corra double.

The're all good pedals,but there's something about that direst drive speed king that just feels so good.

Mine doesn't squeek either.

I started with (and still own) a Speed King. I'm currently having it refurbished, as it's now my backup pedal (and it's taken me years to get used to it's replacement, which I bought so I could finally master "the constant release" - don't ask). For a heel down player, it's certainly the standard, and, while not as adjustable as the legendary Rogers (one-piece) pedal, it certainly gets the job done. It's the Swiss Army Knife of pedals - it always works.
