First Rogers Snare - Powertone mystery year Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

I walked into a local music store and found a Rogers "steel" snare for a good price. Turns out it was a Powertone that I think I got a fair deal for. Only problem is it was missing the paper tag.

My guess is late 60's early 70's. The only clue is a music store ( I am guessing long since closed) stamped on the snare side head. I have yet to clean this guy up but will post some pictures when I do. I imagine it will come out as clean as my Gretsch 4160 did.

Here is a link that mentions the music store being not far from Manny's music in NYC.

I think your "steel" of a deal is actually a brass shelled powertone snare. Nice find, should clean up nicely.

That Fullerton Chrome is super shiny. I have a Powertone with the bordered tag, and a dyna in the 53000 range,... shiny.
