Howdy,
Thought I'd share this one as they are fairly scarce. It a first year of issue Ludwig Acrolite w/Pre-Serial Badge and red baseball bat muffler. The shell has the typical first year 'orange-peel' finish, it sports a welded seam, a unique bearing edge and crimped snare beds. This is the 'before' photo:

As you can see, with the exception of the top hoop, the drum is all original. Somebody must have bent the original soft aluminum hoop tuning up the drum and replaced it with a Slingerland Stick-Saver.
I will be swapping out both hoops, the Slingy hoop and the original aluminum snare hoop for a set of Ludwig COS hoops so I can tune and play the drum without damaging the original snare hoop by adding too much tension to it. The COS hoops will make the drum a player! One I can wail on without worry.
I'll post up some shots of the interior and the crimped snare beds later on. Check back. I'm off to take it apart and start the detailing and conversion into a working snare drum. Hope you enjoy the photos. It's an interesting and rare drum. More pix to come.
