Fitting heads to gretsch round badge Last viewed: 1 hour ago

have you tried Attack heads?

I went through this a with a couple of 14" oversized drums, and found that different brands vary.

Aquarian being the tightest, just a hair less than 14"

Remo, Evans, Ludwig right at 14"

Attack a hair bigger, not quite 14 1/16

Aquarian AMERICAN vintage, RMV, Premier right at 14 1/16" ... I don't know about availability of RMV or Premier, and these heads were from the late 90's.

eta: I just measured an Evans 360 - not quite 14 1/16"

Attack heads get a bad rap for some reason - probably due to the price - but they hold up just as well.

I cut all the heads that go onto my Radio Kings. That being said, I've only had Remo heads on them so maybe the Aquarian American Vintage/Evans 360/Attack heads wouldn't have the same issue, or at least to the same extent.

I'm still waiting for American vintage heads to arrive for my oversized radio king, can you believe I've been waiting for at least 2 months now. They' should ' come any day now- orders supposed to have come on 31 April. I've never tried these so am hoping I like them and they fit better, I'm going to have to reallly tug to get the other Remo's off.

I love the jazz era

Sorry - yes Dan - I mistakenly said "Modern Vintage" when I should have said Aq American Vintage = which are oversized and the ones that I have used on my Gold Sparkle 58 Gretsch tight fitting 14 floor tom.
