floating floortom feet comparison Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Hi Folks,

I'm planning to buy a couple of sets of floating floortom feet for some floortoms and bass-drums.

I found out that the Gibraltars cost only third of the price of the pearls.

I'm in the Netherlands and I can get the pearls anywhere. The Gibraltars however I can't buy anywhere. I'll have to order them in GB. If I order 5 sets it will cost me 15 pounds + 10 pounds shipping (together about 35 euro's). If I'll buy 5 sets of pearls it will cost me no shipping but 5x12,50=62,5 euro's.

So, thought I'll have to pay a lot of shipping, the gibraltars will be a lot cheaper. Also I like the looks of them better on a vintage drum.

BUT: DO THEY WORK JUST AS WELL AS THE PEARLS?????

Anyone of you Americans/Brittish been comparing the two??? Could you please advice me?

Thanx in advance.

I can't speak for the Gibraltars but I recently put a set of the Pearls on the straight legs of my 16x16 radio king and they REALLY worked wonders... The comparison is night and day. Granted they look horrendously out of place on a kit from the 40s but the extra mids and lows I'm now hearing plus the added length of sustain - the note probably lasts 3 times as long - is definitely worth it. Highly recommend them.

I've experimented with the pearl feet as well and also found that they work wonders on my Beverley Blue Badge and a sonor with straight legs. I found that the gain is biggest with straight legs, though the gain with bended legs is still happy-making.

However: I would much like to know if the Gibraltars feet are as good or better than the Pearl feet.

It's all physics and no branding! :) You could make some yourself, the concept is simple isolation....from vibration-absorbing floors. Mine are Gibralter and work fantastic.

I have both on all my 14x14 FTs, either works great in improving resonance. Tama makes them as well but I'm not sure they are available as separate sale items.

I've used the Gibralters for years. I have also used the Yammie feet, I didn't notice any difference. They both do the job. Final choice is based on aesthetics, if you don't like the way the Yammie feet look, go with Gibralter. But it's essentially, six of one, half a dozen of the other, they are 'same, same' in terms of effect.

Too many great drums to list here!
