again me...

i was wondering one thing...

is it possible to somehow replace flobem strainer from premier snare drums with regular strainers eventualy... i think that it is really good strainer mechanism, but i see that a lot drummers are having problems with it... and i thought about it how could it be transformed from flobeam strainer to regular strainer like trick or something... i dont know... just wondering is it possible? and what should be done to do this...

Not without either drilling extra holes or making a plate that you could mount a new strainer onto.

What tends to happen is the end of the flo beam on the throw side bends from years of use and the wires end up not sitting flat on the head. It's fiddly taking the royal ace mechs apart but if you are up for it you could dissemble it and hammer the bent section on the throw side of the flo beam so it is straight again. I have done this many times on Royal Aces.

Yes, of course. You would then have something akin to a 'HI-FI', which Premier built and marketed to those who either; 1) preferred a conventional strainer or; b) wanted to spend a little less!

You'd still have the superb shell, hoops, lug design and plating.

Premier drums are under-valued, considering their quality relative to other top makes in the current vintage drum market, so the lessening of value as a result of drilling extra holes ought not to be much of a disincentive.

Of course, you would no longer have quite the same sonic response and feel as that of parallel action snares, but that different may be relatively significant, if not negligible.
