Folks - what have I purchased? Last viewed: 18 minutes ago

Can anyone tell me what I've gotten myself into? The vintage 60s Ludwig snare case is worth nearly as much as I paid in total. It was billed as a Slingerland snare - but I haven't seen a badge (or the drum yet). UPS won't deliver my mystery drum for another week...

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Judging by the limited pics, i think you have just purchased a vintage MIJ (made in Japan) snare drum, either ignorantly sold as, or intentionally passed off as a Slingerland..The no badge is a red flag when making a purchase like this.. The Ludwig case is probably worth the same as the snare itself.. But then again, i could be mistaken..

I would wait for a forum member who knows Slingerland to give you a response

Ha!!! I was prepared for that possibility! When the drum arrives, I will post more details and photos, and then we can all laugh and/or dry together :)

This is most certainly an MIJ Slingerland copy which they produced alot of. The ludwig tombstone case is very nice though.

I love you guys - but had very little notice on this one. I will get money back on the tombstone case. The drum is gravy. I was willing to take a chance. I want to see the throw-off. I'm curious to know why the seller said it was a Slingerland. Maybe there is a branded part somewhere on the drum. I'll revisit this thread when I have more information.

Thanks to all of you!

MIJ , no stick saver rims and the dirt line for the badge is round , not oval.

Those cases first showed up in the '67 catalog and a bit earlier in the Ludwig Drummer publication. Most cases you see like that have the Blue Olive badge as they went to that in the late 60's. So yes, that's a nice find indeed.

Unbeknownst to anyone, that drum is an ancient Egyptian Ta Fra Ta Dum drum, not known by anyone to have existed, and potentially worth untold millions of hagradad.*

*hagradad is not a word.
