I think I remember that...

I was also wondering, back then, why you'd put those little toms way up where you'd have to stand up to play them!!

The drums were set up by the photographer who obviously knew nothing about drums...I do remeber those in the Sears catalog then.....btw, the small toms are on a floor stand, the base is hidden behind the bass drum......

Strange placements? yes. Strange for Gretsch Blackhawks to be in the Sears catalog? No. flower

Bill, why are your pix so small? Are you using an online resizer? If so, resize to medium, not small. The medium setting is best. If you are using the medium, go to large.

Exactly! Just like drums can be spotted in movies or tv shows that were set up by non-drummers! Or my favorite on the old 'Archies' cartoon, plugging the electric guitars into the wall outlet!

LOL!....funny story:

My friend from Brazil told a story about when he was a kid and was starting his first kid band. As they were setting up, the guitarist asked one of the other kids to "plug in his speaker cabinet. So, the friend, unknowingly took the two wires to the speaker cabinet and plugged them into the wall outlet! He said the sound it made was very "unique" and then it didn't make sound any more after that! It could have been a shocking experience!

LOL...Back in the early 70's I was a audio electronics tech helping an associate build disco systems, (we did Studio 54, and Regine's in Manhattan).

At the audio trade shows the Cerwin-Vega company would illustrate the durability of their woofers by plugging a 12 or 18" woofer directly into a wall outlet. Made for an attention getting demo!

You could always tell where Cerwin-Vega had it's booth or room set up. It sounded like the Queen Mary was docking.

That's my first kit, in black and minus those aerial toms. From that same catalog too.

What I always thought was weird with sets like that is how they included a tom stand and all these toms I could live without but only one cymbal on a stand.
