so I recently got the Ludwig educator kit. figure i'll never find a matching snare for it. my educator kit is all 4 ply. most of Ludwigs chrome wrapped rockers snares were also 4 ply. some had granitone interior. but some have clear maple interiors like my kit. ran across one in 6.5 depth with maple interior in which someone had already taken the chrome wrap off of. spent some time this weekend and refinished it. the drum itself was a whole whopping 39 dollars! I decided to finish the exterior in maple to match the interior of the shells which I think look great. it also matches the maple finished bass drum hoops. kinda ties it all together. I bought a loose educator badge on the forum a few years ago. I used it on the drum. will make some kinda label to go inside to denote it as custom deal or something along those lines. I think it turned out nice. the drum had all it's parts which always makes it nice. I did add some Ludwig wires.

Mike, brilliant idea man. That snare fits right in with the others. And don't give up on finding a snare drum, You just never know.

Thank you!

Looks nice,I am really surprised at how many Rocker drums had a pretty outer ply.

thanks gents. appreciate the kind words. played it a good bit tonight. man these things sound good.

I thought about putting bowtie lugs on it(same hole pattern). but the educators use these same type of mounts for the cymbal arm and floor tom legs, etc. figured it was another way to tie them together. plus the lugs were in great shape too.

the outer maple does look pretty good. I only had issues where Ludwig had two long vertical strips of glue side by side that held the chrome wrap on to the shell. when the previous owner stripped the chrome, they left that mess. when I got it removed it was a lot lighter in color than the rest. you can't sand down real far on these outer veneers or you can sand through them. but in the end it turned out better than I expected.
