Gem of a snare Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

I have had this very early `60s Slingerland brass shell snare drum for a few years now. It is a great sounding drum.

I have a similar `65 Sound King, and have owned other mid `60s Slingerland Krupa Sound King snares, but this earlier shell with no lines has a slightly different sound. I like it a lot.

Who else has one of these? I would love to find the version with the lacquered brass shell as opposed to the chrome plated, but the examples I have seen were badly pitted.

Really nice looking drum. I thought all the COB drums had lines and the COS were without... or is one of those "Monday morning"/"Friday afternoon" drums like those 8 lug Supras you hear about every now and then... somebody spun a brass shell on the steel line because they were hungover/wanted to leave for the weekend...

Best way to tell is the magnet test. If it sticks it ain't brass.

Regardless though, that is a beautiful drum.

It's the drum that is simply called the new brass shell snare in the `59 catalog.
