Gene Krupa on Flames Last viewed: 12 hours ago

This is great and I had to share it. Gene Krupa on a red satin flame 20, 13, 16, 1N outfit in 1971. He's right there even though you hold your breath trying to sense if it will happen. And it does. It's a bit like Ringo in a Day in the Life. Everything lands right where it needs to be even though the form of it is totally unpredictable.

Some things just don't look right. Gene Krupa playing any color of drums other than White Marine Pearl looks like an alien concept.

1971 Man. No way even Gene Krupa could be on WMP at that point in mod history, though I'm sure he went back eventually. I've even seen a picture of Buddy Rich on what looked like Mardi Gras in the mid-60's. Must have been rental sets.

I may be wrong. But, I don't think Louie Bellson ever digressed from WMP until he began playing those gold wrapped Remo drums.

My memory may be a bit off but Louie Bellson played a Gretsch Copper Mist set with Duke Ellington in the early 50s.

I think Dave Tough had it right about white marine pearl drums looking like toilets.

He's playing great, considering he had some pretty bad arthritis problems with his left hand by then. One of my heroes...

I don't think that I'm the only drummer from the 60s who didn't like WMP or Champagne Sparkle because those are what the OLD GUYS played. Now, that I'm one of the OLD GUYS, I really love both of those finishes.
