Gene Krupa question...... Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Looks like the case kept that gear looking pretty decent..
GK theory ? now that would be something else... A 40's pic I can recall seeing was GK and entourage disembarking a plane... at his feet on the tarmac was a Tartan looking snare Bag...
Cheers

Nevin very cool gear. You never know on that case. Hang onto everything and research. I think Gene was based in Yonkers NY. Or retired there anyway. I know I've seen some mention of family here and there. Maybe someone might remember and have some leads. The good people at Zildjian may know someone you can contact. Not sure who the GK guru is these days. Hey are those pedals the "Krupa" versions with his name on the heel plate? I have to wonder if he used his signature gear too? Neat stuff and good luck with everything!
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Good eyes Mark. I missed that. :)

That tartan bag is actually a hat box. A woman in the 1940's wouldn't be traveling without a hat box...

I couldn't find a single pic of Krupa with his cases.

Thanks for the photo! I'm definitely on a quest to find out for sure. Enthused to dissect the truth...regardless of the outcome.
My reasons for perusing is simple.... A very ornate (expensive for the day) trap case, velvet lined, dovetailed corners, ornate metal corners, latches that lock, with expensive initials attached that are not common to the era, as many just painted their initials or name (have seen a few online of the late great Buddy Rich). Put that theory aside, now add that all the components inside is what he endorsed in the early 40's.... It intrigues me, and a few I have spoke to on the phone. Digging deeper, and found another clue which I have attached. A military sticker in the top center of the lid, (above the initials), stating Fort Benning. My quest continues.
Brooks Tegler would be one undisputed expert to contact.

Man, your going to have to spend hours just looking at every photo possible. I know i've seen some pics where he used his case as a throne.
